The Other Midnight Mug Wall, Prof. Tony Lake Appointment

Hi everyone,

In addition to the Tap Project wall in the Midnight Mug, the marketing committee - Phoebe, Victoria, and Nastasia - put up another display, also in the Midnight Mug, with stories and poems written by members of the Georgetown community who were affected by the earthquake in Haiti. During these past few months we have seen much tragedy and sorrow, but at the same time, we have seen an outpouring of kindness, as well as witnessed the strength of human resilience. Please continue to remember Haiti.

In March Georgetown's Professor Tony Lake was appointed by the UN Secretary-General to be the next Director of UNICEF. We once again offer him our congratulations! Below is a photo from Professor Lake's farewell reception.

World Water Week and Prof. Tony Lake's Appointment

Hi all,

We hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather we've been having. World Water Week is coming up, and no, the problem of insufficient or inadequate water supplies in the world is not limited to just certain times of the year. Please read on for information about UNICEF-Georgetown's participation in and activities during World Water Week:

UNICEF Tap Project is an internationally recognized fundraising campaign that helps UNICEF raise awareness of the world water crisis, which affects 900 million people worldwide. The Project aims to garner support to help reduce the number of children that die of water-related diseases, which is 4,100 everyday.

The campaign is based on a simple concept: Tap Project recruits restaurants to ask their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free. Each dollar can provide a child with safe drinking water for 40 days.

During this week (Mar 21-27), UNICEF-Georgetown will host various events including: a film festival, RA theme dinners, and an Epicurean Bar fundraiser. Also, check out our artwork in Midnight Mug and the flag display on Healy lawn.

Proceeds from the TAP Project 2010 will go to Haiti.
